The golden Thai desserts we're named after
Thongyib Thongyod is Ao Nang's Thai dessert cafe: our signature thongyib & thongyod golden sweets set (149฿), year-round mango sticky rice (159฿) and ten ice-cream flavours, served daily 8:00–18:00 near Nopparat Thara Beach.
Walk into any Thai wedding and you'll find a tray of tiny golden sweets: thongyib (ทองหยิบ, “picked gold”), pinched into five-petal flowers, and thongyod (ทองหยอด, “drops of gold”), perfect glossy spheres. Made from little more than egg yolk and sugar syrup, they trace back to the royal kitchens of Ayutthaya — and because thong means gold, serving them is a wish for prosperity.
Most visitors to Thailand never taste them; they rarely appear on restaurant menus. That's exactly why we named our cafe after them. OurSignature Thongyib Thongyod Set (149฿) pairs the traditional sweets with ice cream — old royal court, new seaside cafe. If you read the full story behind the golden desserts, we wrote awhole guide to Thai desserts.

The classic
Mango sticky rice, done properly
The single most-mentioned dish in our reviews.
Ripe mango, coconut sticky rice, a pinch of salt in the coconut cream to keep the sweetness honest. We serve a personal portion (159฿) and afamily set (199฿) for sharing — order it with Thai milk tea and you have the most Thai afternoon possible.
It's naturally vegan and gluten-free, which makes it the easy answer when one person at the table wants dessert and another "isn't having any" (they always have some).

Good to know
Dessert questions, answered
What are thongyib and thongyod?
Two traditional Thai desserts made from egg yolk cooked in syrup. Thongyib ("picked gold") is pinched into a small flower; thongyod ("golden drop") is a perfect sweet drop. They are served at weddings and ceremonies as symbols of good fortune.
Is your mango sticky rice seasonal?
We serve it year-round with the best ripe mango available — Thailand grows several varieties across the year. Peak sweetness runs roughly March to June, but it is a favourite in every season.
Is mango sticky rice vegan?
Yes — mango, sticky rice and coconut milk. Our signature Thongyib Thongyod set contains egg yolk (that is what the golden sweets are made of) and is served with ice cream.
Dessert first is a legitimate strategy: the golden sweets pair beautifully with our signature coffees — or come after brunch if you insist on tradition.
